truc2 – modulated multi-effect – is now free

truc2download

truc2 is a multi-effect plug-in with 4 different effect modules and two automated XY pads to modulate their levels and parameters. It is designed to add variation and movement, anywhere along the scale of subtle to overkill and is suitable for any material

The 4 effect modules are DIRT, GRAIN, RING and DELAY. The first XY pad modulates the volume/mix level of each module, whilst the second XY pad modulates any 4 of the 15 automatable parameters. Both XY pads can be moved manually and additionally automated with a variety of LFO shapes, speeds and depths

truc2 is a complete rewrite of the original from new. The main improvements over the first version are;

  • Correct real-time rendering of all XY modulations
  • Enhanced XY pad LFO modulation options
  • XY pucks can be dragged whilst being modulated by LFO
  • Graphical representation of modulations on XY pads and parameter knobs
  • More dirt options
  • More ring mod / pan / vol mod options
  • Completely new GUI

features

  • 4 effect modules
    • DIRT – 18 flavours of distortion, 3 types of degrading and a resonant state-variable filter
    • GRAIN – Tempo-sync Granulising with 6 envelope shapes and pitch/size/rate randomisation
    • RING – Ring modulation with LFO, 14 tones, 11 LFO waveforms, vol and pan modulation
    • DELAY – Tempo-sync delay with reverse, ping-pong and resonant LP filter
  • 2 XY pads with simultaneous manual and automatic modulation
    • Modulate the effect module overall volume or wet/dry mix level
    • Modulate any 4 from 15 of the parameters in the 4 effect modules
  • Tempo-sync LFO for each XY pad axis, with 16 waveforms and adjustable depth and phase
  • Dragable XY pucks for manual modulation, even when automated by LFO
  • Graphical representation of XY and parameter modulation to see at a glance what is automated
  • 120 presets
  • bonus truc2 mini plug-in

the original truc back for download

trucdownload

truc is a multi-effect VST plug-in, with 4 banks of effects controlled by the movement of 2 pucks. The top puck controls the level of each effect bank, the bottom puck modulates any 4 of 13 parameters within the effect banks. This allows continuous morphing of the sound by moving the pucks to vary the impact of each effect bank

As well as manually controlling each puck (either by mouse or midi controller) you can lock the pucks together and/or set them to move automatically, either randomly or by a configurable LFO, all in sync with your project tempo

truc was co-developed by de la Mancha and sink for the KVR Developer Challenge 2007 where it finished in 4th place. It was replaced when truc 2 was released as payware, but now it is back available for download (since none of the payware is available anymore).

Note: truc is primarily a ‘live performance’ plugin and is written in a way as to minimise CPU use. This means the modulation you hear in real-time is not rendered in the usual way in your host. Instead, you will need to record the audio in real-time in your host or use an audio recorder plugin (see below for details)

features

  • 4 effect banks
    • dirtifier – overdrive, bit crush, sample rate, variable state filter
    • modulator – flanger, tempo sync LFO modulates auto-pan or ring mod
    • delay – tempo sync delay with reverse, ping-pong and LP filter options
    • granulator – tempo sync granulator, pitch shift and gate with random options
  • 2 independent xy pucks control;
    • effect bank wet/dry level and/or relative volume
    • any 4 of 13 effect parameters
  • set the minimum levels of the pucks to change the sensitivity
  • lock bottom puck to the top puck to control both with one movement
  • either or both pucks can be independently set to ‘auto’, which moves the puck either randomly or by a configurable LFO, all in sync with host tempo
  • seeded randomisation with option to loop
  • switch unused effect banks off saves CPU
  • master volume and wet/dry levels
  • over 100 presets, from subtle to mental
  • all controls have MIDI CC’s assigned with MIDI learn option

Rendering and real-time audio recording

The focus of truc is as a live performance tool, and minimising CPU is an important factor. To achieve this, truc has been written in a way that uses a low CPU method for modulating the pucks and effects, but the minor drawback is that this modulation is not rendered in the usual way from your host. To get technogeeky for a minute, truc uses the GUI processes for modulation, instead of the Audio processes, which means that it doesn’t work if you can’t see it on the screen (if you minimise the plugin window, you will not hear the modulation). This means Rendering or Freezing will not capture the modulations within truc either and it will sound static

Solution: You will need to record the audio from the mixer channel containing truc as real-time audio in your host, with truc visible on the screen.

Most hosts can do real-time recording in a few simple steps, recording the mixer channel output to .wav, which you then import back into your project. If your host does not support this function, you can use Voxengo Recorder to perform the same function

We appreciate that this extra step is more work for you, but if the modulation was done in the usual way, then truc would eat 50-60% of your CPU for breakfast and demand “More!”. This way, truc is useable in a live or studio situation and keeps to a strict CPU diet

combover comes back from the archives

comboverdownloadcombover is a comb delay, and four more comb delays, and a step sequencer that does odd things, and a pool of prime numbers that make stuff happen, and some mix n match pitch detection. It also has an xy pad and wet / dry controls that let some stuff through and other stuff not. It does crazy stuff, you should stop reading these words and find out for yourself.

combover was developed by de la Mancha and runagate, who together formed the evil alliance. It hasn’t been available for download for a while, but following the new dlM wordpress site, I am going to carry on uploading a few archived and previously unavailable plugins. Hope you enjoy the madness 🙂

black box

black_boxdownloadthe legend

the black box slight disorder was found by pawn shop owner, Jesus “Buffa” Martinez, in the wreckage of a secret experimental gyrocopter that crashed landed in Times Square, New York on Friday 8th January, 1969. Buffa sold it on to an anonymous collector, thought to be a wealthy rock star in a band-du-jour and it has since been stolen, smuggled in and out of all 17 continents, used as a door stop, an assault weapon, integrated into the Soyuz Space Station, survived 2 assasination attempts and came 3rd in last years Big Brother. Although several theories have been put forward, no-one knows exactly how it works. Teams of scientists, engineers, conspiracy theorists and reiki masters have all failed to gain entry to this enigmatic box of tricks. What is known is that it will take an audio input and spit out a modified signal, seemingly using a system of things and other stuff that make you go mmmmmmm.

The rythmic, choppy, buffered and tempo sync output is especially pleasing on drums, but works for most instruments and vocals too. It has no controls, only a red LED display that runs from 000 to 099, each number would appear to change the algorythymic undertones that affect the things and stuff inside differently. Some of these so-called ‘programs’ appear to loop the effect, others don’t. Sometimes the things are faster and the stuff slower, othertimes it’s the opposite.

The original black box is now retired from public life, but de la Mancha was lucky enough to get access for a few short days and using revolutionary new tele-sampling techniques was able to bring you this perfect software emulation of the legendary black box.

therapy

therapydownload

therapy is an effect plugin that allows you to express your innermost feelings, neurotic ramblings or burning, muderous rage, and have the results presented in full stereo audio psychosis. Instead of the usual knobs or sliders, therapy invites you to type words to generate the psycho-somatic algorhythms that will shape, bend your audio according to your own twisted mind. Express yourself through free association, random babbling or drug-induced, histrionic word-vomiting. Type it in, hear the results, scream at the moon.

Warning: therapy is not a replacement for professional psychological help. Neither am I, I’m as messed up as you are

 features

  •  3 band granulizer effect with absolutely no ability to deliberately control any parameter
  • Word driven controls, even I don’t know how it works, but it does
  • Stares back at you without suggesting how to solve your problems, just like a real therapist
  • What was your relationship with your mother like?

freq show

freqshowdownload

freq show screws around with your audio and ouputs an unholy version of whatever you fed it

A – choose 1 from 11, using the power of your ears to decide which you like best

B – like A, but B

mode – choose 1 from 9 ways that A messes up B, or B messes with A

xy pad – using your mouse, a midi pad or sheer will power, move the puck around to influence how much freq show will destroy your audio

manic

manicdownload

manic is an 8 slot random sample player where you decide the samples, but manic decides when to play them. Samples are triggered according to their probability, on a tempo sync pattern. Also allows for randomising of volume, pitch, pan, delay, reverse and swing. You decide how much, but not when. You can loop the sequence, change sequence seed with midi keys and quantise the pitch randomising for a more melodic sequence. Works well for random glitchy percussion, instant melodic sequences of multisamples or total chaos

features

  • 8 sample slots, supports 16&24 bit mono&stereo wavs
  • each sample played randomly according to it’s probability
  • tempo sync hit rate (hits/beat)
  • seeded randomising for repeatable sequences
  • midi playable seeding, change sequence with a midi key press
  • random sequences can be looped for repeatability
  • randomised swing
  • per sample volume, pan&pitch
  • per sample randomising of volume, pan, pitch and reverse
  • per sample pitch quantising to semitone/cent
  • per sample routing to randomised delay
  • play / stop / resync controls
  • midi CC and midi learn
  • 246 samples and 25 presets covering acoustic&electronic drums, glitch and 8 bit noises, synth bass and keys
